West Yorkshire headquartered DB Orthodontics crowned Exporter of the Year at the first virtually held PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards 2020 ceremony.

Like a lot of things this year, the circumstances of 2020 meant that this year’s PD Ports Northern Powerhouse Export Awards took place a little differently than usual.

For the first time in their history the awards were hosted virtually, but that certainly didn’t stop the celebrations. The ceremony showcased the fantastic ongoing work, resilience and innovation of exporting companies from every part of the Northern Powerhouse.

The nights overall winner was DB Orthodontics, who took home the prestigious Exporter of the Year award, as well as being crowned Small Exporter of the Year earlier in the evening.

DB Orthodontics is known internationally for manufacturing and distributing high quality orthodontic and dental laboratory supplies.

The company prides itself on delivering a down to earth, non-pretentious service that focusses on both the needs of the patient and clinician. Their product design begins in West Yorkshire, in their HQ in Silsden houses where their sales, design, warehouse, regulatory and quality teams all work under one roof, meaning they can quickly adapt to every customer’s needs.

There most recent achievements include increasing their total export sales by 11%, gaining new distributors in; Brunei, Ukraine, Mauritius, Turkey, Kuwait, Nigeria, and receiving two highly commended awards at the Dental Industry Awards. They are now able to add PD Ports Exporter of the Year to their list of achievements.

Commenting on their win, DB Orthodontics’ director, Victoria Coppack said: “We have such a strong team, and this award is for everyone involved in the business.

“It is such a hard industry to be in at the moment, especially with all the EU regulation changes coming in. It’s hard work, but to be recognised with this award is just absolutely amazing”.

Frans Calje, CEO of the awards headline sponsor, PD Ports, presented the award to DB Orthodontics and had this to say: “We are so proud to sponsor the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards 2020, to celebrate all of the incredible exporters who operate within the Northern Powerhouse, doing all the great things that enable the UK to trade with international markets all around the globe.

“DB Orthodontics distinguish themselves by fighting in a fiercely competitive market and always staying ahead of the curve with continuous innovation”.

“Distributing their product to over 70 countries all around the world makes this family run business an incredibly impressive exporter and worthy winners of this year’s Exporter of the Year Award.”

Nicki Clark, CEO of UMi, founders of the awards, praised all of the events winners and nominees: “A huge congratulations to this year’s Northern Powerhouse Exporter of the Year, DB Orthodontics, and to all of tonight’s winners and nominees who all have all accomplished so much this year, whether it be around getting over difficulties or growing your business during these challenging times.

“UMi’s promise is to help businesses do more and go further, and tonight has been all about going further in the world. Perhaps a bit of a strange concept when we’re feeling the  physical  constraint's of a global pandemic and quite possibly fundamental changes in some of our closest trading relationships, but there is no better evidence of a desire to collaborate beyond our own shores than the stories of the business that were here tonight.”

“If you’re an exporter yourself and are keen to understand more about how to get involved or your business needs some support to navigate EU transition UMi are on a mission to make it easier, so please get in touch”.

Markus Keller, UK Head of Global Trade and Receivables Finance, Corporate and Business Banking at HSBC UK, commented: “During these unusual times, I’m so glad to be able to take this opportunity to celebrate the success and excellence of the North’s leading exporters. HSBC UK are proud to sponsor the Norther Powerhouse Export Awards for a third year running”.

“Despite the challenges of 2020, tonight’s award winners and exporters have shown real resilience, commitment and entrepreneurial spirit to take the best of the North to the rest of the world.”
