Business Support

The Government has launched a campaign to highlight a new Business Support website, which brings together support and advice for small businesses across the UK in one place.

The website is split into four key areas - finance and business planning; leadership and talent; innovation and technology; and exporting.

One beneficiary of government business advice and funding is Nottinghamshire-based Loopwheels, which received two Innovate UK grants to help develop their products.

Co-founder Gemma Pearce said: “Loopwheels help make life better and more comfortable for wheelchair users. Loopwheels reduce vibration by up to 70 per cent compared to a spoked wheel, so the amount of vibration transferred into the person in the chair is significantly reduced.”

The company won a £24,000 grant to help create the Loopwheel for wheelchairs, and then a further £211,000 grant four years later, to enhance the loopwheel so it could go faster and be used off road and on rough terrain.

“We’re growing rapidly now,” Gemma said. “We’ve got good distributors in important export markets. We plan to expand into our current market and to look at taking our technology into other areas.”

Businesses can also contact the Business Support Helpline for one to one advice by calling 0300 456 3565 or by using the LiveChat function at www.businesssupport.gov.uk
