Meet the expert: Jonny Ross of Fleek Marketing

Jonny Ross, founder of Fleek Marketing talks to UMi about the importance of networking, learning and playing for future leaders and why he got involved with Digital Knowledge Exchange.

What is it that your company does?

Digital campaigns, training and consultancy, deeply rooted by SEO.
Describe your role in no more than 100 words

Helping forward-thinking businesses offer better customer service, and drive retention and sales through strategic marketing.
How did you come to do the work that you do?

Previously an optician, running the largest sunglass e-commerce store in the ’90s (we knew this from our buying power, bigger than Debenhams and Shade Station!), I became self-taught on all things digital and became passionate about climbing the Google ladder and playing the game!
What exciting things are happening in your industry at the minute?

There is something new every day. Data science, automation and voice are key technologies driving marketing hacks forward all the time.
Where do you see the company in five years’ time?

Continuing our success with our ambitious clients, driving growth and sustainability.
Why was it important for you to support the Digital Enterprise or Digital Knowledge Exchange?

I am a passionate supporter of local SMEs and the digital gap is unfortunately huge. A lot of the time it is common sense and business leaders simply need the space to explore, understand, and be coached and mentored in closing the gap. This then opens to new markets, strategic client retention and strong sustainable growth.
What advice would you give to an aspiring business leader?

Get out of your comfort zone and do something different on a regular basis (in personal and business life). Network with people that are achieving things you want to achieve. Believe in openness, sustainability and the environment. Embrace change and ideas from younger generations.
What do you wish someone had told you when you started out?

It’s going to be tough, lonely and you will have to learn along the way!
Why would you recommend Digital Enterprise or the Digital Knowledge Exchange?

You are not a forward-thinking business leader if you don’t consider Digital Knowledge Exchange! A chance to network, learn and play. Three key parts to being a future leader! Along with extremely skilled mentors and trainers, the programme categorically drives growth and sustainability.
