UMi, in partnership with Social Enterprise Mark, Inspiring Women Changemakers and the School for Social Entrepreneurs, celebrated the announcement of this year’s Social Entrepreneur Index with an online celebration event on Friday 31 July.

Together, the entrants and organisers celebrated the social impact, creativity and innovation of 55 of the UK’s most inspiring social entrepreneurs and 19 companies that are “ones to watch” – the judges felt in the coming year these will be entrepreneurs that will be making a significant impact.

The online event gave social entrepreneurs, ambassadors, judges and supporters the opportunity to network one-on-one and also in a group discussion.

The group discussions focused on social entrepreneurs being at the forefront of solutions to so many of society's biggest challenges. When testing times - such as the COVID-19 situation or an economic downturn - arise, what can businesses of all kinds learn from the social entrepreneur's approach? Look out for the report on the discussions in the coming weeks.

Attendees heard from Nicki Clark, Chief Executive, UMI; Kate Welch, Social Enterprise Acumen; Anj Handa, Inspiring Women Changemakers and Lucy Findlay Social Enterprise Mark.

UMi’s Chief Executive, Nicki Clark, explained: “Over many years, UMi has been celebrating and inspiring entrepreneurship across the UK. As part of this focus, the UK Social Entrepreneur Index is a celebration of entrepreneurs running businesses with social purposes who we hope will also act as beacons of inspiration for others to encompass positive social impact. It was great to bring everyone involved in the index together online and celebrate and share ideas and good practice with each other.”
