Nominations open for UMi Northern Powerhouse Export Awards 2022
Exporters from across the North of England are invited to nominate their business for the UMi Northern Powerhouse Export Awards 2022.
First launched in 2016, the campaign is designed to celebrate the achievements of the North’s top exporters, while championing and supporting others to get started or continue expanding their export activities.
This year’s campaign has been developed to help exporters better understand the challenges facing the industry and, as such, will leverage the expertise of a number of partners in supporting businesses to sell their goods and services overseas.
Tees Valley Combined Authority has come on board as a strategic partner to celebrate the dynamic and resilient businesses that are embracing global commerce at a time when there is considerable uncertainty in international trade.
The awards are free to enter and recognise exporters across 10 categories, with something to suit businesses of all sizes. The judges will also select the overall Northern Powerhouse Exporter of the Year from the category winners.
The award categories are:
- New to Export (business of any age exporting for less than two years)
- Micro Exporter of the Year (turnover less than £2m)
- Small Exporter of the Year (turnover £2m to £10m)
- Large Exporter of the Year (turnover more than £10m)
- E-commerce Exporter of the Year
- Most Entrepreneurial Exporter of the Year
- Export Team of the Year
- Emerging Markets Exporter of the Year
- High Growth Markets Exporter of the Year
- Net Zero Exporter of the Year
- Overall Northern Powerhouse Exporter of the Year

Nominations will close in December 2022, with winners being announced in February 2023.
The campaign will offer national brand exposure to successful businesses and supportive content to aspiring exporters, delivered through a mix of inspirational interviews, actionable advice, and informative roundtables, culminating in an interactive digital publication.
